Auto Injury

We take care of many patients with neck pain, back pain, pinched nerves and headaches. Many of these cases are the result of an auto accident or injury that happened many years prior. The early symptoms were ignored or covered up by medications, which leads to other problems in the future. If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident it is important to get an evaluation by a Chiropractor. Most Medical doctors will treat a patient with an anti-inflammatory, pain killer and a muscle relaxant. Although this may be an important part of your getting back to normal, it does not address biomechanical changes which may have occurred as a result of the trauma.

In a car accident, where the head has been whipped back and forth (whiplash), several things can happen. Muscles may have been torn and stretched and ligaments can rupture or tear. The discs between the spinal bones can bulge or herniate. These injuries can lead to neck pain, back pain, pinched nerves and headaches.

Usually with whiplash type injuries, muscles, tendons and ligaments in the injured areas become irritated. This is because the joints in the area were moved beyond their normal positions while under tremendous stress. These irritated tissues then become inflamed. The inflammation process contributes to the pain in the area and leads to the scar tissues that are deposited in the heal. The more normally these joints and tissues are moving while they heal, the better they heal. The better they heal the less likely the patient is left with abnormal joint motion that may lead to problems in the future.

The best way to make sure you don’t end up with a permanent problem following a motor vehicle accident is to be evaluated by a Chiropractor. If during your exam more serious injuries are detected, you will be referred out to the appropriate specialist. Most of our auto injury patients receive adjustments to their spines, several different modes of therapy, and exercise instruction.
